The maca root is a common medicinal herb in South America, and has been called the ginseng of the Andes, or Peruvian ginseng. Maca grows at elevations of 3800 – 4800 m, high up in the Andes of Bolivia and Peru, and it is one of the only plants capable of surviving in the extreme conditions that prevail there.

Maca is considered to be one of the rarest and most unique plants, with a long history of more than 2000 years of use. Even today, Peruvian natives continue to consider the root as a very nutritious food, and a staple of their daily diet. However, it is only recently that western researchers have discovered the ancient maca root and the many benefits that it may offer.

Maca is one of the super-foods, a rich source of fiber and a good source of plant protein. It provides an abundance of vitamins and minerals, contains almost 20 amino acids, and also an abundance of essential amino acids, fatty acids, and other unique ingredients.
